Toronto Tummy Tuck Expert Improves Results With New Thermal Liposuction Techniques

TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - August 20, 2014) - Getting rid of excess fat can be difficult, especially for women who have given birth. For some women, even vigorous exercise and strict diets don't eliminate the loose, hanging fat on their abdomens. That's why tummy tuck surgery remains one of the more popular postpartum procedures. Though traditional tummy tucks flatten patients' abdomens, extensive scars around the front, side and back of their contours often prevent them from having 360˚ body contouring procedures.

Though resulting in large scars, traditional tummy tucks offered patients flat stomachs to show for profile pictures but often failed to provide 360˚ body contouring results. But it's now possible to get full body contouring results thanks to thermal liposuction. Dr. Stephen Mulholland, a Toronto cosmetic surgeon and owner of SpaMedica a Toronto plastic surgery centre, says that his tummy tuck Toronto patients see significant circumferential tummy tuck results with minimal incisions, stealth scars and less downtime.

"Before, tummy tucks meant patients had their lower tummy skin removed. They would usually get their belly button repaired and the tummy muscles (rectus abdomenus) tightened," says Dr. Mulholland.

Now with the advent of thermal liposuction technologies such as BodyTite™ and SmartLipo™, surgeons can now provide circumferential hip, flank and back contouring during standard tummy tuck procedures. Patients get the full results they want without the scars and pain of old-fashioned back or flank lifts. "For mini tummy tucks, we can provide far better upper tummy, flank and love handle results. The scar would only be the size of a C-section scar," says Dr. Mulholland.

What makes thermal liposuction advantageous is that it involves heating and liquefying the fat while tightening the skin prior to fat removal. BodyTite™ uses radiofrequency electrical current to gently heat and melt the fat and tighten the deeper soft tissue. Meanwhile, SmartLipo™ uses laser energy to heat and tighten the under surface of the skin. "By combining these two contouring technologies, a patient's back flanks, side love handles and the upper abdomen can undergo tremendous reduction and contraction," explains Dr. Mulholland.

Dr. Mulholland has been teaching Advanced Plastic Surgery Procedures to physicians since 1997 in workshops worldwide (Dr. Mulholland CV). In a recent Canadian national television show, CityLine,  Dr. Mulholland revealed his Modern Tummy tucks with 360˚ body contouring.
