Toronto's Police Officers of the Year Awarded

Four constables share the honour at the annual Toronto Board of Trade awards

Attention: Business/Financial Editor, City Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 12, 2008) - Four police constables who risked their lives attempting to save two boys from drowning were named co-winners of the Police Officer of the Year Award tonight at the 41st annual Toronto Board of Trade awards ceremony.

Constables Mark Tan, Jennifer Anderson, Frederick Hillier and Trevor Morrison received the honour tonight from Police Chief Bill Blair at the gala awards dinner. They were recognized for their bravery and compassion in crossing thin ice and suffering repeated submersion in frigid waters in their attempts to reach the two boys, who did not survive their accident.

Board of Trade Chair Betty Carr told the audience that the safety and security of Toronto is vital to both our quality of life and economic success, saying, "The outstanding work of the Toronto Police Service contributes to our international reputation as a great city in which to live, work and invest."

The Police Officer of the Year Award was created by the Board of Trade in 1967 and is presented each year in partnership with the Toronto Police Service. A volunteer committee of the Board's Young Professionals and a judging panel of community and media volunteers make this annual event possible.
