Toronto's Star Trek Fans To Gather And Remember James Doohan

All are invited to Scottish Pub to "Raise A Glass To Remember Scotty" Attention: Arts/Entertainment Editor, Assignment Editor, Lifestyle Editor, News Editor TORONTO/ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - July 21, 2005) - Just days after their 19th annual convention, the people behind Toronto Trek ( were saddened to learn that one of their heroes was gone. James Montgomery Doohan, best known for having played the miracle-working engineer "Scotty" on Star Trek, passed away early Wednesday morning at age 85.

In memory of the Canadian actor and war hero, the organizers of Toronto Trek will be hosting a memorial gathering this weekend. The event is being referred to as "Raise a Glass to Remember Mr. Doohan", and will take place on Saturday, July 23rd, 7pm at Auld Spot Pub, 347 Danforth Avenue, Toronto. All fans of Mr Doohan are invited to bring photos and memories of Mr. Doohan, and to sign the condolence book that the organizers will have on hand, to be sent to his family.

Toronto-area Star Trek fans may recall that Mr. Doohan attended Toronto Trek in 1992. He is remembered as a fan favourite, with a quick wit, a sparkle in his eye, and a true love for the fans of Star Trek. As one fan recalls, "Listening to Jimmy Doohan was like listening to your grandfather. He told the greatest stories, with the greatest affection for his fellow co-stars and the adventures they shared. My experience with him also led me to believe that he never forgot his roots were in Canada, and that he was proud of that."

Mr. Doohan is survived by his wife, Wende, and his nine children. Toronto Trek sends condolences to the Doohan family, as well as the extended Star Trek family. At present, funeral plans are not confirmed.
