Toshiba's IPMobility Mobile App Wins 2013 INTERNET TELEPHONY Excellence Award

IRVINE, CA--(Marketwired - Sep 24, 2013) - Toshiba America Information Systems Inc., Telecommunication Systems Division (Toshiba - www.telecom.toshiba.com), today announced that its IPMobility has won TMC's 2013 INTERNET TELEPHONY Excellence Award presented by INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine. The 2013 INTERNET TELEPHONY Excellence Award winners were published in the September 2013 issue of INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine, www.itmag.com.

"We are very honored for IPMobility to receive a 2013 Internet Telephony Award," said Brian Metherell, vice president and general manager of Toshiba America Information Systems Inc., Telecommunication Systems Division. "Toshiba's free IPMobility mobile app provides single-number reach to Apple® and Android™ smartphone devices for users of Toshiba's IPedge® and Strata® CIX™ business telephone systems."

"On behalf of TMC and the editors of INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine, we are honored to grant Toshiba with an INTERNET TELEPHONY Excellence Award for its innovation in IP Communications," said Erik Linask, group editorial director, TMC. "Toshiba's IPMobility has demonstrated exceptional quality and proved itself worthy of this honor by improving business for its clients."

This award was given, in part, for the successes achieved by Toshiba's IPMobility at Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART - www.smartbus.org), Southeast Michigan's only regional bus system.

IPMobility Extends Single-number Reach to Apple iOS and Android Mobile Devices for Users of Toshiba's IPedge and Strata CIX Systems

Toshiba's IPMobility client application for IPedge and Strata CIX provides single-number reach to Apple® and Android™ smartphone devices for both incoming and outgoing calls. Single-number reach means users only need to provide their office telephone numbers to receive incoming calls. This utilizes the existing Find-Me Follow-Me feature, which provides options to choose either sequential or simultaneous ring to the desk phone and mobile phone.

For outgoing calls, IPMobility dials through the IPedge or Strata CIX, displaying the office number caller ID and providing least cost routing for long distance and international calls. The user has the option of dialing directly through the system or having the system call back the user before making the outbound call in order to avoid mobile network long-distance charges. IPMobility accesses advanced system calling features including extension dialing, call transfer, and call record, among others.

In addition, IPMobility provides visual voice mail to remotely manage and control IPedge and Strata CIX Messaging voice mailboxes. From a mobile phone, users can view, play, reply, and forward their voice and fax messages as well as manage their greetings, name recordings and mailbox passwords.

IPMobility Success Story: Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART)

Created in 1967, SMART has helped people connect to work, school, medical appointments, shopping centers, entertainment and cultural events. SMART provides 11 million rides annually and operates 234 Fixed Route buses on 43 routes with more than 5,000 stops, seven days a week, 22 hours per day. Through its Connector Service, SMART also provides 1,100 rides per day for seniors and people with disabilities who can't access SMART's regular Fixed Route service. SMART also partners with 75 municipalities and organizations to support local transit service.

The Challenge: Improve Internal and External Communication and Reduce Costs

Mel Evans, IT manager for SMART, specified SMART's communications objectives, which include:

  • Improving communication with SMART's community of riders, many of whom use the Connector Service and need to call to reserve rides;
  • Setting up a Call Back feature for the contact center to help avoid long wait times for callers while ensuring their needs are met;
  • Creating a feature-rich contact center with call reporting, call recording and call management applications to improve customer, agent and supervisor experiences;
  • Delivering Unified Messaging to deliver email, voice and fax messages to a single inbox;
  • Enabling SMART's IT team to handle some of its own system administration to save time and money; and
  • Providing a reliable business telephone system that was affordable while delivering cutting edge technology features with a fast return on investment.

Sue McGill and Ric Dorman, sales representatives at CTS Companies (www.CTS-Companies.com) of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, recommended Toshiba's IPedge. "We knew that Toshiba's IPedge would exceed SMART's objectives," McGill said. CTS Companies has been an Authorized Toshiba Dealer since 1980. CTS Companies is Toshiba's longest-standing dealer.
