Total Transit/Discount Cab Expands to Salt Lake City

This November, Discount Cab Will Begin Operating at Salt Lake City International Airport

PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwire - Nov 2, 2011) - Total Transit, parent company to Discount Cab, is proud to announce they've been selected by the Salt Lake City Department of Airports to begin providing taxi cab services at the Salt Lake City International Airport with a 100-cab fleet, beginning November 2011.

The selection of companies to begin providing services in November at the Salt Lake City International Airport involved a rigorous RFP process, aimed both at providing travelers with efficient, competitive transportation and to further the positioning of SLC as an eco-friendly, forward thinking city. The selection process was based on quality of vehicles, driver programs, operational plans, experience, fees, financial performance and references.

"We are anxious to bring the citizens of Salt Lake City a level of service and convenience not seen before," said Total Transit CEO Craig Hughes. "We see this new contract as not just an expansion of our services, but an opportunity to become an asset to the Salt Lake City community. In doing so, we'll contract and employ more people than are currently engaged in the industry while providing a service level that currently doesn't exist in the Salt Lake City market."

Being a leader in the transportation industry with respect to standards and eco-friendly initiatives, and having won the 2009 Large Fleet Operator of the Year award from the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association, Total Transit was a natural fit for this SLC contract.

Despite variability from state-to-state in laws governing driver screening, Total Transit has driver requirements that go above and beyond. All drivers must pass a ten panel drug screening test as well as a sex offender registry check; have no DUIs; and complete a three-day training that includes classroom, on-the-road and sensitivity tests. Total Transit also certifies its drivers to provide mobility/wheelchair-accommodating transportation for those with disabilities.

While Total Transit's/Discount Cab's hybrid Prius taxis make up 81% of the company's current fleet (the largest Prius fleet in North America). The fleet deployed in Salt Lake City will also be mostly comprised of hybrid Prius taxis. With its Prius fleet, Total Transit saves an estimated 2,000,000 gallons of fuel per year. The Toyota Prius also has an EPA Greenhouse Gas Score of 10, the highest possible rating.

Hughes went on to say, "We will take the same steps we took in the Arizona marketplace to create an average of 10,000 trips dispatched daily. As well, we'll support Utah in the same way we've supported Arizona through the Total Transit Foundation. In 2011, the Foundation has donated over $300,000 to Arizona charities, and we'll look to support Utah charities just as fully in 2012 and beyond."
