TOWN HALL LA Welcomes Back Condoleezza Rice to Discuss Her Book on Family

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - October 18, 2010) -  The Honorable Condoleezza Rice, 66th US Secretary of State and author, will return to TOWN HALL Los Angeles to discuss her newly released book "Extraordinary, Ordinary People: A Memoir of Family" on Monday, October 25, 2010 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel. Dr. Rice will be in conversation with her cousin and Los Angeles civil rights lawyer, Constance Rice, Co-director of the Advancement Project. This will be the only pairing of the cousins in the national book tour.

Included in the book are personal and historical reflections of Dr. Rice's youth in segregated Alabama, "I probably have at one level, a better understanding, or perhaps, let me say a more personal understanding of what the dark side of human beings can look like. I remember very well in 1963 when Birmingham was so violent, when it acquired the name 'Bomb-ingham.' And on the other hand, I have a great faith in the ability of people to triumph over the dark side of human beings."

This marks Rice's second appearance at TOWN HALL, the previous being an address delivered on June 13, 2003 while National Security Advisor to President George W. Bush. Rice served as provost of Stanford University from 1993-1999, and was the Soviet and East European Affairs advisor to President George H.W. Bush during the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

Constance Rice is a noted civil rights lawyer, policy advocate, and expert in police reform. By invitation of LAPD Chief William Bratton, Rice investigated the largest police corruption scandal in LA history and remains an advisor to the LAPD. The LA Times named Rice as one of LA's "most civic minded" leaders.
