Town of Ajax, Messier Dowty Reach Deal That Supports Industry and Growth

AJAX, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 7, 2011) - The Town of Ajax and Messier-Dowty Inc. have closed a deal that supports the Town's economic development goals and allows for future growth of the aerospace firm's Ajax operations.

Messier-Dowty has purchased a five-acre parcel of land on Mackenzie Avenue that houses the Town's former operations centre. It is adjacent to Messier-Dowty's existing 12-acre site and will accommodate current and future needs.

"This sale means not only revenue for the Town, but is a strong signal from one of our major industrial employers that they continue to have faith in Ajax as a place to do business," said Mayor Steve Parish. "I'm pleased we were able to help them meet their needs while satisfying our economic development and business retention objectives."

After more than 60 years in Ajax, this purchase is another step in Messier-Dowty Inc. securing its long-term presence in the Town.

In July, the company was awarded a $1.9 million Innovation Demonstration Fund grant from the Provincial Government. The grant will help the company advance an environmentally friendly process for applying and removing chemical coatings from landing gear. The new technology will provide greener products for aircraft manufacturers around the world. The initiative immediately added five new jobs to the more than 500 existing jobs at Messier-Dowty Inc.'s 205,000 square foot facility.

"Since our facility in Ajax was identified by Messier-Bugatti-Dowty for final assembly and integration of the Boeing 787 landing gears, we have expanded to the full capacity of our current site. With this acquisition, we are well positioned to accommodate business growth and future opportunities as well as continuing to be a vital part of the community where we work and live," says Messier-Dowty Inc. president Bryan Teed.

The Town's Economic Development & Tourism Strategy identifies supporting technology-based manufacturers, like the aerospace industry, for continued success.

"We are pleased to assist and promote the accomplishments of our businesses, and proud of the example that Messier-Dowty Inc. sets in environmental initiatives, employment growth and industrial expansion," said Lisa Hausz, Manager of Business Development and Marketing for the Town of Ajax.
