NEW GLASGOW, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwired - Jan. 10, 2013) - A small group of municipal outside workers with the Town of Trenton have rejected a so-called final offer from their employer.
CUPE National Representative Betty Jean Sutherland says, "The offer contained a dramatic concession which would have had the most impact on long service employees.
"I am very happy to say that this small group of workers chose to stick together and reject this demand for concessions," says Sutherland.
CUPE has notified the employer about the vote, as well as the Conciliation Officer from the Department of Labour who is assigned to the contract talks.
Says Sutherland, "We have made an offer to the Town to go back to the table and try and resolve this dispute without a work stoppage. Workers do not join a union to move backwards and this concession would have been a major step backwards."
