Goodwill and Bon-Ton Stores Partner to Help Put People to Work

ROCKVILLE, MD -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 13, 2007 -- Goodwill Industries and The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. are partnering in a semi-annual Goodwill Sale to benefit local programs helping people having a tough time finding a job -- whether because of a disability or poverty or lack of work experience.

From March 14 to 26, Bon-Ton customers who donate clean, gently used clothing and home textiles at participating store locations will receive discount coupons toward the purchase of new merchandise. One coupon is given per item donated, and donations support Goodwill Industries job training programs in each local community.

"Thanks to the generosity of Bon-Ton stores and their loyal customers, Goodwill is helping people in communities across America find and keep good jobs," says George W. Kessinger, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries International.

The popular retail trade-in promotion is in its 13th successful year. In 2006, the semi-annual event generated over 5 million pounds of donated merchandise. With those donations, Goodwill earned roughly $7 million to provide local job training and career programs.

"This semi-annual promotion is a great benefit to our customers, who can do some spring cleaning, donate items to a great cause and receive a substantial discount on new merchandise purchased at our store," says Bud Bergren, president and CEO of The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc.

The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. operates 282 stores, which includes eight furniture galleries, in 23 states in the Northeast, Midwest and upper Great Plains under the Bon-Ton, Bergner's, Boston Store, Carson Pirie Scott, Elder-Beerman, Herberger's and Younkers nameplates and, under the Parisian nameplate, two stores in the Detroit, Michigan area. The stores offer a broad assortment of brand-name fashion apparel and accessories for women, men and children, as well as cosmetics and home furnishings.
