A Tradition Dear to Saint Brother Andre: Saint Joseph's Oratory Highlights the 91st Novena and Feast of Saint Joseph

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - March 18, 2011) - Since March 10, thousands of pilgrims from both near and far have been gathering at Saint Joseph's Oratory to celebrate the 91st novena dedicated to Saint Joseph under the theme: Beacons illumine our path – Some saints have a heart-to-heart conversation with Joseph. Visitors from Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick, several American states, Latin America and Europe are making a pilgrimage for this occasion.

According to Oratory rector Father Claude Grou, CSC: "The Feast of Saint Joseph held a special place in Saint Brother André's heart ever since the Oratory's founding. Indeed, this feast was observed during three days of prayer, which was extended to nine days after 1921. We are proud to say that this tradition is still alive today!"

Feast of Saint Joseph, March 19

This novena will culminate this Saturday, March 19, with the feast of the patron saint of both the Oratory and Canada. Three celebrations will gather pilgrims in the Basilica: the first at 10:00 a.m. with Mgr Terrence Prendergast, Archbishop of Ottawa, then at 2:30 p.m. with Mgr Martin Veillette, Bishop of Trois-Rivières and finally at 7:30 p.m. with Cardinal Jean-Claude Turcotte, Archbishop of Montréal. Les Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal will provide their vocal stylings, accompanied by organist Philippe Bélanger. Nearly 20,000 pilgrims and visitors are expected to attend this celebration honouring Saint Joseph, a figure much revered by the founder of Saint Joseph's Oratory.

"Pray to Saint Joseph and he shall forever be your father and your guide."
