Transmode Gains RUS Acceptance for US Government-Funded Rural Networks

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN--(Marketwire - April 6, 2011) - Transmode, a leading supplier of optical networking solutions, today announced that its portfolio of optical networking solutions has received RUS acceptance from the US Government's Department of Agriculture Rural Utilities Services.

The RUS, a division of the US Government's Department of Agriculture, offers funding and low-cost loans to service providers investing in networks serving rural communities. Any carrier deploying networking infrastructure projects in market areas that meet the un-served or under-served criteria can apply for this funding. This RUS acceptance now allows service providers to purchase Transmode's optical networking platforms with these funds.

Transmode's optical networking solutions boost network capacity, reduce network complexity and improve ease of operations for service providers. Independent carriers buying Transmode's products typically benefit from its modular solutions that can help accelerate the deployment of broadband backhaul, mobile backhaul, business Ethernet and Cable TV and other new services in rural areas.

Such carriers will benefit not only from US Government funding but also from networking solutions that quickly generate revenue and simplify the day-to-day operations of storage area networks, infrastructure solutions for mobile, cable and IPTV networks and in the delivery of Ethernet services.

"The RUS acceptance of Transmode's products demonstrates our commitment to the provision of broadband connectivity across the US," said Paul Harrison, Transmode's VP North America. "We wish to help all independent service providers scale and grow their networks with cost-effective and reliable solutions which help rural communities and alleviate the digital-divide."

The Technical Standards Committee "A" (Telecommunications) at the RUS has accepted Transmode's TM-Series, TS-Series and TG-Series optical networking solutions for the transport of data, voice and video traffic. These products will be included in the next update of the List of Acceptable Materials.

Transmode's list of RUS accepted products ranges from passive WDM solutions via the TG-Series to metro and regional packet optical solutions via the TM-Series.
