Transport Canada: Appointments to the Windsor Port Authority

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 6, 2009) - Canada's Transport Minister, John Baird, today announced the appointments of Mr. Rocco Lucente, of Windsor, Ontario, and Mr. George Sandala, also of Windsor, to the board of directors of the Windsor Port Authority. Each has been appointed for a term of two years.

"I am pleased that Mr. Lucente and Mr. Sandala have agreed to serve as members of the board of the Windsor Port Authority," said Baird. "The Authority will benefit greatly from the business experience and professionalism that they each bring to the organization."

Mr. Lucente holds a bachelor's degree in applied science from the University of Windsor. He is a civil engineer with many years' experience and is also a licensed member of Professional Engineers Ontario. Over the course of his career, he has been responsible for many civil engineering projects, including reconstruction of municipally owned roadways, park and marina development, and the development of residential and industrial subdivisions. Since 2002 he has been president of R. Lucente Engineering, Inc.

Mr. Sandala holds a bachelor's degree in commerce from the University of Toronto and worked for many years for TD Bank before retiring as a vice-president. He is a past member of the Windsor Economic Development and Strategic Planning Committee, and of the board of directors of the Windsor Better Business Bureau and the Windsor Symphony Orchestra. In addition, from 1999 to 2005, he served as vice-chair of the Windsor Port Authority. He is currently a member of the City of Windsor's Audit Committee and vice-chair of the Windsor Utility Commission.

The Windsor Port Authority is the Canada Port Authority (CPA) established to manage the Port of Windsor effective July 1, 1999, under the Canada Marine Act. Seventeen CPAs now make up Canada's national port system. The CPAs are non-share capital corporations incorporated under the Canada Marine Act that are of strategic significance to Canada's trade. Their effective operation contributes to our global competitiveness.
