TransUnion SmartMove(R) Launches New Eviction Report Solution to Help Landlords Potentially Save Up to $10,000 in Costs

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - Dec 3, 2014) - New TransUnion SmartMove® data released today found that total eviction-related expenses for property managers averaged $3,500 at the end of Q2 2014. The analysis found that eviction-related expenses, which include maintenance fees, lost rent, court costs, filing costs and judgment costs, can reach as high as $10,000.

The report found that the average eviction judgment amount dipped 2.3% from $1,963 in Q2 2013 to $1,917 in Q2 2014. While the cost has decreased, TransUnion SmartMove's new national eviction report could help landlords avoid these eviction-related expenses altogether.

The new service, which allows landlords to obtain a national report of the applicant's past evictions, includes the location of the previous property they were evicted from, as well as the landlord or plaintiff's name, date of eviction, and the judgment. The evictions reports are bundled with credit and national criminal reports and available for only $35.

"TransUnion gives landlords peace of mind knowing that they approved an applicant that has passed an eviction screening," said Jason Norton, vice president of TransUnion's rental screening solutions group. "Conducting a comprehensive screening of applicants, including an eviction report, can save landlords the time, effort, and costs of eviction."

The SmartMove national eviction report comes as part of the tenant screening package, which also includes a full credit report and criminal background check. SmartMove eviction reports feature enhanced matching logic for even more accurate results. SmartMove's robust database contains 24 million+ eviction records and covers all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
