TranSwitch Announces World's First High-Definition Video Interconnect Receiver Integrating HDMI and DisplayPort Technologies

New HDplay™ Video Interconnect Products Are the Industry's Most Advanced, Highest Speed Devices Utilizing TranSwitch's HDP™ Technology

SHELTON, CT--(Marketwire - March 28, 2011) - TranSwitch Corporation (NASDAQ: TXCC), as part of its new corporate strategy to provide the highest performance semiconductor products for High Definition (HD) multimedia, announced that it is rolling out a new family of integrated circuits (ICs) that supports HDMI® (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) and DisplayPort standards at the highest speed and image resolution of any product on the market.

TranSwitch's patented HDP™ technology enables electronics devices with HDMI® ports to now connect with those using DisplayPort because HDP™ can work seamlessly with each. TranSwitch's new family of HDplay™ ICs thus eliminates the need for expensive, active converter cables. It lets consumers view crisp, clear video from their notebook PCs, tablets and smart phones on high definition televisions using a simple passive cable.

TranSwitch's new HDplay™ products are fully integrated ICs designed with four HDP™ inputs and one HDMI® output. They are the first to support all HDMI 1.4a resolutions including 4K x 2K, the highest resolution which is used in large screen TVs, and 3D 1080p at 60Hz, the highest resolution for 3D-TV. In addition, other consumer electronics devices such as projectors and AV (audio/video) receivers will now be capable of supporting the exceptional image capability of the highest resolution 3D televisions. Also, HDplay™ fully integrates high-speed Ethernet connectivity for digital TVs and other appliances. According to In-Stat, a leading market research firm, the annual shipment of internet-connected televisions, set-top boxes, DVD players, gaming consoles, and personal video recorders is expected to grow to over 1 billion units by 2015.

Also according to In-Stat, DisplayPort will replace the existing video interconnect standards (DVI and LVDS) on PCs and PC-peripherals over the next 2-4 years resulting in a market of over 300 million device shipments a year by 2014 ("In Depth Analysis DisplayPort: DP, eDP, and iDP Set to Change Display and PC Landscapes," January 2011). The new HDplay™ ICs from TranSwitch support audio return channel (ARC), HDMI Ethernet Channel-enabled HDMI ports (HEC), and fast Ethernet 10/100 PHY. In addition, all of the devices are very low power to support the energy saving initiatives of equipment manufacturers.

What is HDP™?
HDP™ is dual-mode PHY developed by TranSwitch which supports both HDMI™ 1.4 and DisplayPort™ 1.1 in single physical layer (PHY) without needing any switch. HDP™'s Auto-detect capability not only facilitates connectivity between PCs and HDMI® consumer electronics devices but also significantly simplifies the software control, drives devices' size reduction while lowering the bill of materials for manufacturers.
