Trapeze Fuel Monitoring Solution Offers Potential Annual Fuel Savings of Over 10%

Makes transit fleets smarter, cleaner and more efficient with the benefit of a safer and more cost effective operation.

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS--(Marketwire - Oct. 4, 2010) - Trapeze Group today introduced INOVAS, its newest software solution for public transit, at the 2010 APTA Annual Conference being held in San Antonio, Texas. The INOVAS analysis tools show how the collection of driver data and vehicle engine metrics over time can be used to determine performance trends: information that enables improvements to be made in safety and efficiency. It also provides transit agencies the tools to help operators improve their driving skills; thereby enhancing the passenger's experience.

According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, fleet managers have estimated that driver training and incentive programs typically result in 15 percent fuel savings. Whilst other studies estimate that many fleets could achieve a 10 percent fuel economy improvement through driver training and monitoring.1 INOVAS is designed to provide performance analysis and driver training tools to help operators improve their route knowledge and efficiency. It features a direct link to the Trapeze back office suite for full solution integration.

INOVAS recently completed a pilot project at Hope Network in Grand Rapids, Michigan. One of the most significant findings from the implementation was the potential savings in fuel consumption. It was found that Hope Network could save a total of 10% of their fuel costs annually through driver efficiency and idle time reduction programs.

"The ability to examine fuel consumption as it relates to load times, line ups, and pre-route inspections has created a number of opportunities to become better stewards of our resources", stated Mike Hall, Project Manager at Hope Network. "This type of technology provides the potential to more accurately assess system performance, allowing for tighter budget projections, more specific service evaluations and easier identification of operational inefficiencies."

Through system monitoring, agencies can oversee and track the performance of an entire fleet in real-time. Street level map views and "live" dashboards give immediate insight into the status of the operations. This data helps operators improve their driving skills, while measurements such as acceleration, braking, cornering, and fuel usage enable instructors to provide quantitative feedback.
