Trauma Care Bill Passes House With Emergency Nurses Association Support

H.R. 4080 Supports State and Rural Development of Trauma Systems

DES PLAINES, IL--(Marketwired - June 25, 2014) - The House of Representatives approved legislation yesterday aimed at saving our nation's trauma care systems. The Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) applauds the House passage of H.R. 4080 and congratulates Rep. Michael Burgess (R-TX) and Rep. Gene Green (D-TX) for their leadership on this issue.

H.R. 4080, the Trauma Care Systems and Regionalization of Emergency Care Reauthorization Act, would reauthorize two grant programs to support state and rural development of trauma systems, and new models of regionalized emergency care. The bill provides support for these two critical programs until 2019.

The vote by the House comes on the heels of ENA's annual Day on the Hill lobbying efforts on May 7 which helped boost awareness of the legislation and increase the number of cosponsors. The bill is now headed to the Senate for consideration.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, nearly 45 million Americans do not have access to a Level I or II trauma center within the critical "golden hour" following injury.
