Tourism Prince Edward Island (TPEI) announced today the launch of Share Your PEI, a new, interactive section of their existing website, designed for visitors to share their PEI vacation experiences, images and video content. The site also provides links to social networking sites that offer advice and reviews on the Island including: Facebook, TripAdvisor and Twitter.

The site is also home to the "Win a vacation you won't need a vacation from" contest, where contestants can upload entries via video submission to win a rejuvenating break for two on the Island valued at $5,000.00. The contest is part of an ongoing marketing strategy to showcase Canada's Gentle Island as an alternative to stressful vacation experiences and promote PEI as the "vacation you won't need a vacation from."

Share Your PEI allows visitors to interact with the Island by linking to multiple online channels, including links to the official Tourism Prince Edward twitter account @GentleIsland, popular Facebook groups: PEI...the best Island in the world and the TPEI YouTube channel. Other elements include the PEI vacation-o-meter where visitors can assess their need for a trip to the Island and "Peace of PEI" a short-video montage highlighting the relaxing nature of the Island.

"Share Your PEI" is a great opportunity for travellers to interact and share vacation stories and advice with others," said Valerie E. Docherty, Minister of Tourism, Prince Edward Island. "This site invites people to experience the Island and see its unique tourism offerings through the eyes of Gentle Island ambassadors," continued Docherty.

Prince Edward Island offers a place where visitors can blend once-in-a-lifetime experiences like digging clams for dinner or tonging for oysters with travel favourites such as golf, cycling and relaxing at the beach, all without feeling overwhelmed or fatigued once their Island vacation ends.

"Win a vacation you won't need a vacation from" contest

According to a recent Angus Reid survey, commissioned on behalf of Tourism Prince Edward TPEI, Canadians might be in need of a truly restful vacation, with one quarter of respondents noting that their work-life balance has gotten worse since the economy turned south six months ago. TPEI in cooperation with The Great George, Stanhope Bay & Beach Resort and Flip Video want to send one lucky individual and guest to PEI to experience first-hand the rejuvenating attributes of Canada's Gentle Island.

The contest is designed to find Canadians who have had a stressful vacation experience, or who need a restful vacation. Contestants will be encouraged to share vacation stories and make their plea for the opportunity to get away from it all in PEI, via video submission during a public engagement event at the Toronto Eaton Centre from June 22 to 29, 2009 or by submitting a short-video entry to TPEI's YouTube Channel. Video submissions will be uploaded to Share Your PEI, where online visitors can vote for their favourite entry. The video with the most votes at the end of the contest period will win a grand prize trip for two valued at $5000.00 which includes:

- Two round trip airline tickets from nearest airport in Canada to Prince Edward Island

- Three-night's accommodation for two at The Great George
