Travelling By Rail Still an Affordable Option

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - June 27, 2012) - Travelling across the world has never been easier thanks to low cost airlines and faster technology. But there is still a whole world to discover by rail. Asda Finance looks at some of the best locations to travel by train.

Travelling across Europe by train is simple, as most European countries have well-established railway networks in place. You can travel from the UK to Europe in hours thanks to the Eurostar and connecting trains.

The Eurostar is a high-speed train which travels between London St Pancras, Paris and Brussels. Once in mainland Europe, travellers can take other trains to other member states of the EU.

This may involve buying a European rail pass. These are specialist tickets which allow users to have unlimited travel across the national rail network of that country and additional countries. An InterRail pass is affordable and offers considerable flexibility for those looking to explore all that Europe has to offer.

The Trans-Siberian railway network is one of the simplest ways to travel through parts of Europe to Asia. There are a number of routes to choose from, one of the most famous being the Moscow to Mongolia route which passes through Beijing. The majority of Trans-Siberian journeys start in Moscow and span right across Russia to China through Manchuria and alternative routes. Travelling by rail in this area is a unique experience and is far more favourable than travelling by air.

Americans typically use their cars to travel everywhere; however, the United States is a great location to explore by train. One particular train route, the California Zephyr, stretches across the country from Chicago to San Francisco. It is a great way to see the Mid-West, the Rocky Mountains and all that the American west has to offer.

Wherever you are travelling, by rail or any other means, you may wish to consider taking out travel insurance before you go.
