Travelodge Reports Sun Seeker Britons Bunk Off Work to Enjoy the Heatwave

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - May 29, 2012) - With the UK enjoying some of the best weather of the year this week, sun starved Britons are making excuses at work and calling in sick to enjoy a day in the sunshine.

Budget hotel chain, Travelodge, has reported high occupancy levels for the last five days and bookings are looking very good for the early part of this week too.

With temperatures expected to threaten 29oC (84oF), Travelodge hotels in Blackpool, Bournemouth and Brighton are almost completely fully booked over the next three days.

Shakila Ahmed, Travelodge Spokeswoman "We have had a good spell of perfect weather and there is no better place to be when the sun is shinning than the beach. As the temperatures have risen, so have our room bookings, with Britons heading to their local beach for some chill out time by the sea. Our top coastal hotspot destinations have included: Blackpool, Scarborough, Brighton, Bournemouth, Torquay, Eastbourne and Margate. I think a lot of bosses are going to notice a sudden drop in office occupancy over the next couple of days."
