Treat Dental Fear With Sedation at Williamsburg Dental Office

WILLIAMSBURG, VA--(Marketwired - October 26, 2015) - Dr. Michael Whyte, a Williamsburg dentist certified to place dental implants, is now certified in a new procedure that helps curb dental fear and improve the dental experience.

Oral sedation is rendered in pill form and is commonly used on patients with a fear of the dentist or those who need expansive dental reconstruction. Millions of people in America suffer from dental anxiety and often skip dental visits as a result.

"Oral sedation is an integral part of my practice philosophy," said Dr. Whyte, who operates Historic Triangle Dental Care. "I believe patients should be comfortable while they receive the dental care they need. I am very excited to have the ability to offer oral sedation to our patients."

Oral sedation is safe, effective and easy for patients. Dr. Whyte recently began offering the service after completing the necessary training. The patient takes the medication before their dental visit and has a friend or family member drive them to the office. Once they arrive at the office, the patient will be in a state of total relaxation.

Dr. Whyte said that oral sedation allows the patient to stay conscious during the procedure, but patients typically fall asleep.

"I have been surprised at the patient response. There is an oral sedation case nearly every single day now," Dr. Whyte said. "Both our patients and staff are thrilled. Important procedures like fillings or root canals can now completed very rapidly while the patient sleeps, and they feel no pain or anxiety."

Historic Triangle Dental Care, 134 Professional Circle, is a state-of-the-art practice that includes three dental chairs and an inviting and comfortable waiting area. The Williamsburg dental practice offers all phases of dentistry, including cosmetic dentistry, restorative dentistry, implant dentistry, sleep apnea treatment, gum disease treatment, endodontics and beautiful dentures.

Historic Triangle Dental Care is a preferred Invisalign provider and places dental implants for patients with missing teeth or those who need to stabilize dentures. The office also focuses on All-on-4 dental implants and full-mouth reconstructions. All-on-4 dental implants are designed to anchor permanent teeth on the top and bottom arch. Upper dentures typically rely on suction to stay in place, but All-on-4 dental implants are restored with a set of permanent teeth that leave the upper palate open, which allows the patient to experience more tastes.

Dental implants nearly mimic natural teeth and can last a lifetime if cared for properly.

The practice uses cone beam computed tomography and 3D imaging to diagnosis and treat patients; WaveOne endodontics system for quick root canals; and the Pala Digital Dentures system to create accurate and beautiful dentures in just two visits. The dental practice also works with Arrowhead Dental Lab’s Elite e.max to create long-lasting and natural-looking crowns and restorations.

Dr. Whyte earned his undergraduate degree from Utah State University in economics and biology and then earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2013. He has also completed continuing education in All-on-4 dental implants, sleep apnea treatment, sedation dentistry and full-mouth reconstruction.
