Treater Brings Instant Gratification to Social Gifting With Launch of iPhone and Android Apps

Treater's Native Mobile Apps Encourage Spontaneous Gift-Giving, Anywhere, Anytime

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - Oct 4, 2012) - Treater, the leading social and mobile gifting platform, today announced the availability of its native mobile applications for iPhone and Android devices, making it even easier for users to instantly give gifts to their friends on social networks, anywhere and anytime. Launched out of private beta last month, Treater is expanding its online and mobile capabilities to enable people to connect in a meaningful way, by sending friends a coffee, an after-work cocktail or tickets to a movie.

"Since launch, Treater's user base has grown tremendously and we've been thrilled with the number of merchants interested in leveraging the Treater platform. It's clear that consumers are looking for an easy and instant way to interact with friends on social networks in ways other than commenting and liking, and that merchants are looking for a better way to engage their base of social followers," said Jeff Ross, CEO of Treater. "Now with the availability of our native iPhone and Android apps, users can send a Treat at the very moment they are thinking of a friend -- providing instant gratification for giver and recipient."

Whether it's to congratulate a friend on a new job with a beer or send a girlfriend a Treat for a spa visit, Treater encourages spontaneous and thoughtful gift giving and makes it easy for friends to instantly send and receive "Treats" for any casual moment. Each Treat is delivered as a Facebook post, an email or text. The Treat links to a one-time-use Treat Card that can be pulled up on any smartphone and is redeemed just like a credit card or merchant gift card for items at stores, restaurants, and online.

New features exclusive to the native iPhone and Android applications include:

  • Mobile Camera Integration: When sending and receiving Treats, users can share the moment visually and say "I'm thinking of you" or "thanks a lot!" with a shared personalized photo.
  • Address Book Integration: Smartphone address books are fully integrated with Treater, making it simple for users to automatically input an email address or phone number when sending a Treat to a friend.
  • App Notifications: Users are automatically notified when a Treat is received, when you've been thanked or that a Treat is available and waiting to be redeemed.
  • Access to Treater Activity Wall: Allows mobile users to see Treater's social community of gift-givers with a live feed of sent and received Treats -- and inspires users for their next Treat to send!

Treater's business model and brand is built on the idea of people redeeming and sharing their Treats, making is easy to pay it forward. If a Treat recipient spends less than the Treat Card's value, any leftover change is deposited to a "PiggyBank" and can be used by the recipient toward a new Treat for themselves or someone else. Treater users will never have a pile of unused gift cards with small amounts of money left over, as all their Treats and PiggyBank credits live on their smartphones, literally at their fingertips.

"Treating" friends to gifts, meals or drinks is as easy as accessing your social networks online or on your smartphone. Each "Treat" is an electronic, one-time-use payment card that is item-specific and delivered via Facebook post, email or text to a smartphone to redeem for items at restaurants and retail stores. Soon, Treater will expand from the ability to treat Facebook friends to include Twitter and other social networks. For merchants, Treater provides valuable brand impressions on social networks across desktop and mobile platforms and enables them to promote specific products and services to new and existing customers.
