Tree Canada/Bernard Bigras: The First Elected MP in the Montreal Area to Be Certified Carbon Neutral

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - April 21, 2008) - Mr. Bernard Bigras, MP for Rosemont - La Petite-Patrie, QC, and environmental spokesperson for the Bloc Quebecois, pledged today to completely eliminate the amount of carbon dioxide generated by his office and his activities, following an assessment by Tree Canada.

Mr. Bigras has asked Tree Canada to plant 77 trees in his riding to erase his carbon footprint over the next 20 years. Mr. Bigras is the second MP to obtain this certification.

"I've been driving a hybrid vehicle for many years already and, of course, we recycle at home as well as in our constituency office but I was hoping to do more. I'm so happy to be part of Tree Canada's Carbon Neutral Companies & Organizations program. We will beautify our neighbourhood while helping the environment," said Mr. Bigras.

Tree Canada President Michael Rosen welcomed the pledge of the Bloc MP and is looking forward to working together to offer the residents of Rosemont - La Petite-Patrie better air quality by planting new trees.

Mr. Bigras should receive the Carbon Neutral Certification in the next few days.

Tree Canada is a national charitable organization working in partnership with business, public agencies, institutions, First Nations and a variety of non-government organizations at the provincial and local level to plant and care for trees.
