Treefrog Interactive Inc. hosted Newmarket-Aurora MP Lois Brown and Senator Don Meredith to celebrate the innovation and success of local businesses that have prospered through federal government funding initiatives.

The National Research Council of Canada's Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) has provided financial assistance to Treefrog Interactive Inc. to expand its research and development by advancing the performance of its proprietary website content management system, LEAP™ 5.0. In addition to facilitating growth and the creation of new jobs, the funding has also allowed the Newmarket-based web design agency to plant seeds for further invention and growth in the Canadian economy, beyond its own doors.

"During the last few years, thanks to IRAP, we have greatly increased our staff, doubled our revenue, significantly matured our products and helped many other businesses grow through web initiatives in the region," said Treefrog Interactive Inc. CEO Sean Stephens. "We have also been able to bring both foreign dollars and foreign talent into Canada. These cumulative effects will continue to create more Canadian jobs and generate more Canadian innovation."

The LEAP™ content management system allows businesses to maintain their own websites, and leverages the Lasso suite of cross-platform software tools for greater speed and security. In the course of development, Stephens brought ownership and operation of LassoSoft Inc. to Canada from the U.S. to further expedite product innovation, a trickle-down effect of the funding for LEAP™ 5.0.

Stephens also cites the support his company has received from government and business groups at all levels, from local to federal. This includes the ongoing support of the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce, and the consultative methodology of the IRAP team, which Stephens credits with helping his team by stimulating high-level thinking and minimizing red tape.

The advocacy of MP Brown and Senator Meredith is also important to participating companies, as they bring the focus of a national program to the local business community to show the real-life implementation and benefits of economic stimulus initiatives.

"Canada's Economic Action Plan is supporting firms that successfully develop innovative technologies, while creating jobs and economic growth," says MP Brown.

In addition to recognizing the grant to Treefrog Interactive, MP Brown also recognized other Newmarket-Aurora IRAP recipients, including Eurospec Manufacturing Inc., Midpoint International, Myostat Motion Control Inc. and Technicore Underground Corporation.
