STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN--(Marketwire - Dec. 7, 2009) - Now you can help to plant trees and fight global warming with every mail you send.
Treehoo.com launches an eco friendly e-mail service that works like the ones we all use today, with the difference that half of the profit the company makes from advertising is invested to plant trees in the third world. Trees capture carbon from the atmosphere as they grow and are the only effective tool we posses today to fight global warming.
Estimations show that for every 20 e-mails sent by the users, one tree could be planted and considering the hundreds of millions of e-mails sent every day it isn't hard to imagine the impact this idea could have on our environment.
Treehoo.com offers also since last year the worlds first eco-friendly internet search engine. An engine that also invests half of the profit made from advertising to plant new trees. The founder of the company, which has been chosen as one of the worlds top sustainable innovations by the Globe Forum, Swedish Ph.D. student Pedro Bentancour Garin says that "to reforest our planet is the only viable way to stop global warming" adding "new trees are our only mean to capture the carbon we already have emitted which is causing the climate change".
The huge benefits made by search engines and e-mail companies today could help us to lower the amounts of carbon in the atmosphere to the levels we had in the year 1800 in just a couple of years if enough people use the site.
The e-mail service is launched today in connection with the World Climate Summit in Copenhagen.
When asked about other green search engines that have popped up since Treehoo was started, Pedro Bentancour Garin, who first made the connection of using search engine revenues to save the planet, says that "we are glad that our idea is so good that people want to copy it, if all this leads to more money being invested in saving the planet then we are more than happy".
The company is based in Sweden and has already users in more than 100 countries. Treehoo.com has been chosen as one of the worlds most important sustainable innovations by this years Globe Forum in Stockholm, Sweden.
