"It's incredible to see that in six short years, World's Toughest Mudder has attracted athletes from around the world to compete. Competitors have gone from running 56 miles to take the crown in 2011 to more than 100 miles in two out of the three categories this year," Will Dean, CEO & Co-founder, Tough Mudder, Inc. "We can't wait to see what 2017 brings, and we hope that all three category winners will eclipse the 100 mile mark."

With the largest cash prize in Tough Mudder history, over $170,000 in prize money up for grabs, it was the most extreme and exciting race in World's Toughest Mudder history. The prizing for the Men's and Women's categories for the first through fifth placed finishers is $10,000, $4,000, $2,000, $1,000 and $500 respectively. Prizing for the Team category for the first through fifth placed finishers is $20,000, $8,000, $4,000, $2,000 and $1,000 respectively.

The five mile circuit course with 21 obstacles made for an intense race throughout the 24 hours with the finalists battling it out in the last lap of the race. Nearly 1,500 competitors conquered Tough Mudder's best-in-class obstacles, including the newly released 2017 obstacles: Stage 5 Clinger, Augustus Gloop, Kong, Funky Monkey -- The Revolution, as well as World's Toughest Mudder only obstacles such as The Cliff (35 foot jump into Lake Las Vegas at night) and Giant Wedgie (35 foot cargo net climb). Competitors also faced the unpredictable desert weather conditions and the cold waters of Lake Las Vegas as day turned to night.

For the third year, thousands flock to the shores of Lake Las Vegas to compete and watch what is deemed "probably the toughest event on the planet." This year's race was more challenging and competitive and with more prize money on the table than ever before.

Racers from nearly 20 countries and five continents around the globe competed and battled for 24 straight hours for the title of World's Toughest Man, Woman and Team, while others came to battle against their own personal goals. Tough Mudder's live stream and Facebook Live had more than 2.5 million views around the world.

For a behind the scenes take on the race and the personal triumphs and tribulations of the competitors, viewers can tune into CBS Sports Network, Thursday, December 15 (9:00 PM, ET) for the one-hour preview show, ROAD TO WORLD'S TOUGHEST MUDDER, and full coverage of the event, WORLD'S TOUGHEST MUDDER, on CBS broadcast Christmas Day, Sunday, Dec. 25 (2:00 PM, ET). World's Toughest Mudder

Known as one of the most extreme endurance events in the world, the World's Toughest Mudder event, presented by Cellucor, is the only competitive event that Tough Mudder, Inc. hosts in 2016. Competitors are eligible to win a total of more than $170,000 in prizing, including a grand prize of $100,000 for teams that complete at least 100 miles together. Like all Tough Mudder events, World's Toughest Mudder encourages Mudders to work together, help one another overcome obstacles and push past their physical and mental boundaries. While competitive in nature, World's Toughest Mudder is about finding one's personal limits and putting teamwork to the test, and hundreds of participants take part in the event as a team. The community aspect of the event drives thousands of participants from all over the world to participate each year, and even the top competitors help their fellow Mudders on the course.

The event took place at Lake Las Vegas on November 12 & 13. Competitors take on 20-25 of Tough Mudder's most challenging obstacles including The Cliff, Operation, and The Grappler, in this 24-hour, timed event to be deemed the toughest man, woman and team on the planet. The course is a grueling, five-mile loop featuring diverse desert terrain, steep hills, mud pits and more. Prizes are awarded to participants who complete the most miles within 24 hours, and the team of two or more that completes 100 miles together wins $100,000.

To date, World's Toughest Mudder participants have completed over 145,000 miles in aggregate.
