Today one of the world's largest communities of sports enthusiasts launches a Kickstarter campaign aimed at challenging the $250 billion global sportswear industry*. Tribesports, home to 200,000 members, plans to launch the world's first community-powered sportswear brand, bringing high-performance sportswear to market at prices up to 40 percent less than the market leaders. Tribesports' Kickstarter campaign seeks to crowd-fund $46,000 to cover the production costs for the first line.

"Technical sportswear is expensive, but we believe we can make it more accessible," said Steve Reid, Tribesports CEO. "We plan to remove the middlemen, ludicrous multi-million-dollar marketing campaigns and failing bricks and mortar stores from the equation. Instead we'll work with industry-leading designers, manufacturers and incorporate input from our community of athletes, and sell our sportswear online, enabling us to pass huge savings directly to customers without compromising on quality."

The United States is Tribesports' fastest-growing market, and the brand expects its global Kickstarter campaign to be driven primarily by US and UK supporters. Reaching the $46,000 Kickstarter funding target will enable Tribesports to push the button on production of the world's first community-powered performance sportswear line.

A survey of 1,388 sports enthusiasts found that 71 percent feel forced to make a choice between price and quality when buying sportswear. An astounding 84 percent said that pro endorsements have no influence over what sportswear they buy, and 82 percent said their friends influence their purchasing decisions more so than professional athletes.

"We are asking people to join us and support our Kickstarter campaign to help us make high quality-sportswear at vastly lower prices," continued Reid.

Kickstarter backers will be the first to get their hands on the debut Tribesports line at a one-time-only early bird rate. Pledges are also available for those looking to get heavily involved with the project; from sitting in with the designers to becoming a face of the brand for the line's launch.

The Tribesports Kickstarter campaign begins on Aug. 7, 2013 and will run for 30 days. Prototypes for the first line have already been developed using data and input from the Tribesports community. Tribesports will be working with its community, customers and Kickstarter backers to design, spec and spread the word about Tribesports performance wear.

The prototypes have been lab-tested, wear-tested and are ready to run. The first Tribesports line will include long-sleeve and short-sleeve technical t-shirts, performance shorts, capris-length running tights and performance half-zip tops, all in premium technical fabrics.

Anyone interested in backing the Tribesports Kickstarter campaign can do so by pledging from as little as $10 here.
