Trifacta's Chief Strategy Officer to Speak at Data Analytics Week 2014

Joe Hellerstein to Join Industry Panel and Present on Increasing Productivity With New Interaction Design Approaches

LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwired - Nov 6, 2014) -  Trifacta, a leading Data Transformation Platform provider, today announced that Trifacta's Co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer, Joe Hellerstein, will take part in a panel discussion and speak at Data Analytics Week 2014 on Tuesday, November 11, 2014. In his session, "Interaction Breakthroughs in Wrangling Data," Hellerstein will discuss how new interaction models for transforming and preparing data can accelerate the most difficult parts of the analysis process and can lead to productivity improvements of up to 10X when compared to hand-coding approaches. The development of new interaction approaches, such as Trifacta's Predictive Interaction™, leverage techniques in machine learning and visualization to facilitate the human process of transforming data for analysis. By streamlining the process of data preparation, analysts are able to spend the majority of their time analyzing data and uncovering valuable insights. During the conference, Hellerstein will also join Foursquare Data Scientist Tianhui Michael Li in the panel discussion "Should you Centralize or Decentralize your Analytics Team?"

"Data wrangling is often cited as the most time-consuming stage in the analysis process. As a result, there's a pressing need for a new way of working with data -- a high-level human-data interaction model that radically improves the productivity and accessibility of the wrangling process. Trifacta's Predictive Interaction™ model for data transformation accelerates the task of data wrangling via the use of contextual visual cues and machine-generated recommendations. We've essentially flipped the traditional interaction model: rather than having users write transformation scripts and validate the resulting data visually, we have users interact visually with input data, and software takes those visual cues to create transformation scripts on behalf of users. In essence, we get human attention focused on the properties of the data, and use computational methods to cover the drudgery of script authoring," said Joe Hellerstein, CSO of Trifacta.

Hellerstein's session will discuss recent research and interaction breakthroughs in wrangling data and how working analysts are using it within organizations today. Data scientists are considered to have one of the sexiest jobs, but without new approaches for data transformation such as Trifacta's Predictive Interaction™, they're required to spend their majority of their time preparing data rather than analyzing it.
