Trinity Convergence Software Is Licensed by Skype for Use on PC-Free Consumer Devices

Skype Licenses Trinity's VeriCall Edge™ VoIP Platform for Consumer Electronics (CE) Manufacturers Designing PC-Free Communication Devices

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 18, 2006 -- Trinity Convergence today announced that Skype has licensed its VeriCall Edge™ embedded VoIP software platform to create a turnkey software bundle for equipment manufacturers developing stand-alone (PC-free) communication devices that use Skype™ software.

The agreement benefits hardware manufacturers by providing a software bundle that allows them to efficiently and cost-effectively design Internet calling and the Skype user experience into devices such as wired phones, WiFi phones and multi-function personal communication devices. Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and original design manufacturers (ODMs) will leverage the software bundle to shorten product development cycles and accelerate their time-to-market.

"The ability to move Skype off the desktop creates a unique category of devices and offers a whole new level of flexibility to consumers," stated Mark Felice, co-founder and vice president of sales and business development, Trinity Convergence. "The recently introduced mylo personal communicator from Sony Electronics is a great example of a product that lets consumers use Skype without a computer."

"Trinity is helping our hardware partners accelerate their product development cycles," said Manrique Brenes, director of hardware business development, Skype. "The driving force behind this agreement was to simplify the software integration process that consumer electronics companies face when designing products that use Skype -- while ensuring the quality and benefits that users have come to expect."

New Stand-Alone Skype Devices Entering the Market

In addition to the WiFi-enabled mylo personal communicator from Sony Electronics, additional products currently in development include:

-- A Skype phone from Universal Scientific Industrial (USI), a Taipei-
    based ODM
-- A WiFi-enabled phone
These devices support Skype to Skype calling; SkypeOut™ (to call landline and mobile phones); SkypeIn™ (to receive calls from landline and mobile phones); and Skype Voicemail. Broadband connection is required for all communication over Skype. The user interface and functionality available on these devices is as familiar and intuitive as using Skype on a PC.

The software bundle has been integrated by ODM and OEM partners on multiple silicon platforms.
