Trinity Regional Health System to Utilize Sg2's EDGE Growth Planning System

Sg2's Growth Index and Disease-Based Forecast to Support Strategic Framework

SKOKIE, IL--(Marketwire - February 17, 2011) - Sg2, a future-focused health care analytics company, announced a multiyear contract with Trinity Regional Health System, located in Rock Island, IL, for the Sg2 EDGE Growth Planning System. The agreement includes its 4 campuses, located on the borders of Illinois and Iowa.

In order to effectively plan for the future, Trinity understands the need for a comprehensive, accurate demand forecast to uncover new growth opportunities in each of its local markets. Trinity will be able to achieve this with Sg2's 10-year Impact of Change® disease-based localized forecast, which projects patient volume by Medicare severity diagnosis-related group (MS-DRG), disease, patient type and service line across the care continuum.

Trinity will also utilize the Sg2 Growth Index™, a monthly measure that analyzes the percentage of discharges that are financially favorable and clinically appropriate. This will directly address Trinity's rate of potentially avoidable admissions and 30-day readmissions -- inappropriate admissions -- and ultimately provide insight on how well-positioned the organization is to capture sustainable growth opportunities at the enterprise, service line and disease levels.

The EDGE Growth Planning System also includes patient type profiles, a segmentation framework that categorizes patients into 4 distinct types, which will help Trinity better design products, services and access points that meet market needs.

"The analytics captured in Sg2 EDGE are robust, allowing for more targeted strategic growth planning," says Katherine Pearson, vice president of marketing and business development at Trinity Regional Health System. "The Sg2 Growth Index, for example, will enable us to critically evaluate sustainable growth -- which is especially important now with the potential impact of reform legislation. And the disease-based forecast will provide us with a lens to our business across the full continuum -- a first for us. Having access to this data and its impact to our bottom line -- at each facility -- will help us to stay on target to hit our goals."

"Sg2 EDGE will aggregate, translate and analyze Trinity's data into meaningful results, helping them appropriately plan for today and for the future," says Sg2 Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Michael Sachs. "Our analytics and monthly reports will facilitate Trinity's long-range strategic and financial plans by helping them better understand their market position by continuously measuring and tracking their progress in capturing smart growth opportunities."

As an EDGE customer, Trinity also has access to a portfolio of resources, including Sg2 University courses, Web seminars, on-site leadership discussions, clinical and strategic publications, expert opinions and networking opportunities. These offerings provide relevant information and thought leadership to support ongoing business initiatives.
