Tripwire Strengthens Federal IT Security With Support for FDCC Benchmarks

Industry Leader Standardizes Configurations for Desktops in Federal Agencies

PORTLAND, OR--(Marketwire - July 1, 2008) - Tripwire, the leading provider of configuration control and change auditing solutions, today announced the expansion of its capabilities to include support for FDCC compliance. Federal agencies that don't comply with the Federal Desktop Core Configuration benchmark can affect their agency's compliance scorecard which may impact their OMB IT budget approval. Given the complexity of the FDCC -- which includes more than 400 tests -- and the importance of protecting desktops from malicious software and security threats -- government IT managers face a task that is both crucial and, potentially, daunting.

"FDCC is required in the government sector, but it is a compilation of best-practices from both government and private industry sources -- a go-to benchmark for desktop security," said Sean Sherman, program manager for policy support at Tripwire. "Tripwire Enterprise is the de facto tool for securing the whole IT environment, so supporting FDCC made perfect sense."

More than 400 government agencies already use Tripwire to prove compliance with mandatory regulations and benchmarks and achieve a known and trusted state across the entire IT infrastructure. Now they will be able to hone in on desktop security using FDCC, a globally recognized standard of desktop security for Windows XP and Vista. And since FDCC is widely respected as a benchmark with teeth, organizations that don't deal with the government directly -- but that want to tighten their desktop security -- are looking to FDCC's set of best practices to ensure their desktops are absolutely secure.

Tripwire Enterprise monitors configurations across the IT environment, to ensure that all configurations comply with internal and external security standards. When an unauthorized configuration change is made, Tripwire immediately alerts IT staff, so that those changes can be immediately investigated and remediated. Tripwire customers interested in FDCC can receive sophisticated, automated reporting required to complete annual FDCC audits and reduce the resources required to prepare for audits, maintain continuous FDCC compliance and mitigate security risks.
