Tropic Networks Inc. Strengthens Leadership with New Chairman: David Orr Brings Sector and Partnership Experience to Tropic

OTTAWA, CANADA--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 3, 2005) - Tropic Networks Inc., a developer of Wavelength Tracker powered DWDM systems, announced today that Mr. David Orr has joined Tropic Networks as Executive Chairman. Effective immediately, Mr. Orr will work with the Tropic Networks Board of Directors and senior management team as they expand their customer base and drive value through both current and new strategic alliances.

Mr. Orr brings direct experience in scaling growth companies, specifically in the area of optical networking, making him an ideal candidate for this role.

Before joining Tropic Networks, Mr. Orr was an operating partner at JP Morgan Partners. His vast experience in telecommunications has seen him leading both large and small ventures. He served as CEO and President of Alcatel North America from 1991 to 1997, CEO and President, Broadband Technologies from 1998 to 2001, and CEO and President of Metro-Optix Inc., which was acquired by Xtera Communications, Inc. in 2003.

"I am looking forward to this opportunity to scale Tropic beyond it's current customers and markets," said Dave Orr. "We are clearly on the cusp of a large global market for reconfigurable optical systems and Tropic is well positioned to be a market leader."

"I am excited to have Dave join the Board of Directors and look forward to driving the company forward with him. As Tropic continues to expand beyond its installed base of tier-one cable operators and as we continue to strengthen our strategic partnerships, it is vital that we add strength and depth to the leadership team," said Kevin Rankin, Chief Executive Officer, Tropic Networks. "I am also grateful for the leadership Bob has provided and the key role he has played over the last two years in closing a number of strategic partnerships, customers and strengthening the financial position of the company."

Mr. Bob Annunziata, who has been serving as a non-executive Chairman of the Board for Tropic Networks, will continue to serve on Tropic's Board as an independent Director.

"It has been a pleasure serving Tropic as the Chairman and I look forward to continuing to work with the team. I welcome Dave and feel his specific industry sector experience will be of great value to Tropic Networks," said Bob Annunziata.
