Trout Unlimited and Appleby College to Co-Host Scotch Tasting Fundraiser

Event features exclusive Glenfiddich 'tour'

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 18, 2009) - Appleby College has partnered with Trout Unlimited Canada to host a Scotch Tasting event on Thursday, March 5, 2009 in the school's Schlesinger Dining Hall. A pre-tasting reception and silent auction starts at 6:00 p.m. followed by the single malt scotch tasting at 7:00 p.m. The evening includes a question and answer session, live auction and a guided tasting of exclusive Scottish Glenfiddich single malt scotch whiskies by a Glenfiddich representative.

The evening will appeal to both novice and veteran whisky drinkers. Guests will be exposed to the diverse range of flavours this sprit has to offer and learn what makes each label unique in its appearance, aroma and finish.

Tickets cost $100 each and proceeds will be shared between Appleby College for its McCraney Creek Restoration Project and Trout Unlimited's Bronte Creek Restoration Project. One of the jewels on Appleby's campus is McCraney Creek, which runs directly into Lake Ontario. Its watershed is one of the last remaining remnants of Carolinian Forest in Halton Region, but over the years has suffered a decline in water quality, wildlife and plant diversity. Appleby recognizes the benefits of a healthy watershed and has made a commitment to implement a phased plan to improve the physical structure and health of the creek over the next several years. This spring, students will be planting native grasses and interpretive signage along the creek. Phase Two and Three will involve more intensive work to control erosion.

Trout Unlimited's mission is to conserve, protect and restore Canada's freshwater ecosystems and coldwater resources. The organization develops and applies effective, science-based and measurable coldwater conservation solutions, while educating the public about watersheds and conservation issues. Its most recognizable initiative was the Yellow Fish Road™ fish rescue program.
