TrueVault Releases SDK Just in Time for iOS 8 to Make HIPAA Compliance Easy for App Developers

SDK Replaces Tedious Process of Building Secure and Compliant App Infrastructure With a Single Line of Code

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Sep 8, 2014) - TrueVault, the first company to make HIPAA compliance easy for healthcare and fitness applications, today released a new SDK to provide iOS developers with an easy way to build HIPAA compliant and secure apps with Apple's iOS.

Apple is launching iOS 8, which includes new health data tracking through its app, Health, and HealthKit API on September 9th. Demand for new wearable and health apps is expected to surge as consumers look for ways to take advantage of these new features. Developers building medical, health and fitness apps for the iOS 8 platform need to be aware that if their apps use and share sensitive health data, called Protected Health Information or PHI, with doctors or other healthcare professionals, their apps will need to be HIPAA compliant.

Developers can now download TrueVault's SDK, drop it into their development environment, natively write their apps for iOS, and send and store sensitive user data in a secure and HIPAA compliant way. In addition, data stored in TrueVault can easily be retrieved and shared across versions of the app built for Android and other operating systems.

"Developers are racing to build new apps for consumers that track things like sleep cycles, calories burned and blood-sugar levels," explained Jason Wang, founder and CEO of TrueVault. "But they need to be careful with how they handle sensitive health data, as HIPAA regulations carry hefty fines and penalties. We've made meeting HIPAA security requirements as simple as a line of code. iOS developers who use our new SDK can focus their energy and effort on building their apps, and know that HIPAA security standards are being met automatically."

CareConnectors, Inc., a beta user of the TrueVault SDK, is using TrueVault to enable customers using its PatientGraph Platform for secure health data exchange, enabling healthcare providers, patients and trusted third-parties to exchange data seamlessly using TrueVault's HIPAA compliant data storage and security service. "TrueVault's new SDK makes it easy for a developer, healthcare provider or healthcare enterprise to create a seamless, secure and compliant backend for the PatientGraph Platform," said Dr. Sanjay Patil, founder and CEO of CareConnecters. "Rather than writing custom code to deal with widely varying healthcare data storage security and data exchange requirements, developers using the PatientGraph platform and TrueVault get a 'one-stop shopping' HIPAA storage, security and data exchange experience along with regulatory compliance."

Applications that use TrueVault for data security and compliance can display the TrueVault HIPAA compliant badge on their website. The badge lets users know that their data is handled in a safe and compliant manner, and lets developers stand out from the thousands of other health-related applications that consumers can choose from in app stores.
