Trump International Hotel & Tower® Fetes 15 Years With Short Film

Donald Trump's First Hotel Opened on Jan. 15, 1997; Became New York's Only Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star, AAA Five-Diamond Hotel With a Five-Star, Five-Diamond Restaurant; and Led the Way for the TRUMP HOTEL COLLECTION™ Brand Worldwide

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Jan 27, 2012) - It has been 15 years since white-gloved doormen opened the doors of the gleaming, 52-story Trump International Hotel & Tower® New York to its first guests in the then-relatively quiet part of Manhattan known as Columbus Circle. To commemorate the occasion, the New York hotel today debuted a short film featuring the Trump family -- Donald J. Trump and his three grown children, Don Jr., Ivanka and Eric -- Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and hotel staff and guests at

"I had a concept for a great hotel in New York and saw this location and decided this would be the place," says Donald J. Trump, chairman and chief executive officer of The Trump Organization, of the site at the juncture of Central Park West and Central Park South. Once the Gulf + Western building, it was stripped down to its steel girders. With legendary architect Philip Johnson, Trump created a magnificent glass hotel and residential tower.

"We have the highest award from Forbes, we have the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences rating it the best hotel, and we have the highest award from AAA," Trump continues. "It's been an amazing achievement and it's an amazing hotel. We have the best location, the best views, the floor-to-ceiling glass, great rooms, great amenities, and our staff is fantastic."

General Manager Suzie Mills, who has worked at the hotel since pre-opening, attributes its high repeat guest factor in large part to the Trump Attaché. "The Trump Attaché is our guest services department, which is purely dedicated to making sure that every guest's needs are met," she explains. "We really want to make it a home away from home for them. For example, we make sure to find out what their favorite pillows are or whether we can stock their refrigerator for them prior to arrival. There is no request that is too big or too small for our Attaché department."

World-renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten relates how his eponymous restaurant in the lobby of the hotel came to be: "I met Philip Johnson first. He said, 'Kid, come over here,' and he showed me some plans. 'Impossible. I don't know Mr. Trump,' I said. 'Let me make the arrangements,' he told me, and a week later, I was sitting shaking in Mr. Trump's office on Fifth Avenue. Mr. Trump said to me, 'I want the best restaurant in America and one of the best in the world. That's your mission.' So I have to deliver the best service, best food, best combination of flavors, and keep it up. It was a lot of pressure but I delivered." Jean Georges earned a four-star review from The New York Times less than three months after opening and is one of only five New York restaurants awarded three stars by the Michelin Guide.

"The success of Trump International was so deep and so great that we decided to launch a brand," Trump concludes. "TRUMP HOTEL COLLECTION was launched really because of the great success of Trump International Hotel & Tower New York, and now we have some of the finest hotels anywhere in the world." With six locations currently in operation, TRUMP HOTEL COLLECTION will open Trump International Hotel & Tower Toronto® on Jan. 31.
