TrustGo Security Labs: New Android Virus Hits China's Largest Wireless Provider

Cybercriminals Target China Mobile's Mobile Market, More Than 100,000 Devices Infected

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - Jul 6, 2012) - TrustGo Mobile Inc. (TrustGo), a leading mobile security company, today announced that TrustGo Security Labs has discovered a new virus targeting China Mobile's Mobile Market hosted by China Mobile Ltd, China's largest wireless provider. Named the Trojan!MMarketPay.A@Android, the virus automatically places orders and downloads paid apps and video content which can result in unexpectedly high phone bills. Since the discovery of Trojan!MMarketPay.A@Android on July 4th, the virus has been found in nine additional China android markets and has infected more than 100,000 devices.

China Mobile Limited is one of the largest wireless providers on the planet and has more than 600 million users. Currently, the majority of mobile malware is found in applications that originate from and attack third-party markets in China and Russia. The main source of Android-specific malware is the cloning, repackaging and modification of popular apps with intentionally malicious code.

"The ease and speed that malicious apps can be developed and distributed to unsuspecting users is one of the fastest growing security concerns," said Xuyang Li, CEO of TrustGo. "Anyone with a smartphone or mobile device is a potential target. TrustGo's mission is to make it easier and safer for users to download the Android apps they want, wherever they find them. We believe that TrustGo is the only security application that can detect and prevent threats like the Trojan!MMarketPay.A@Android through our patent pending Secure App Finder Engine™ (SAFE)."

To eradicate the virus, those infected can download TrustGo AntiVirus and Mobile Security™ app to uninstall the virus from their mobile devices.
