TTC Provides NextBus® from WebTech Wireless to Bus Riders

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - July 13, 2011) - Webtech Wireless Inc. (TSX:WEW), a leading provider of vehicle fleet location-based services (LBS) and telematics technology, announced today that bus arrival predictions generated by its NextBus Real-Time Passenger Information System (RTPIS) have been released by the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) as part of their Next Vehicle Arrival System (NVAS) initiative. The release of the data to riders and developers represents a milestone for the company as this is now the largest real-time passenger information system in North America in terms of ridership.

The NextBus system uses GPS/AVL and other data provided by the TTC to calculate real-time predictions for arrival of vehicles at stops. The open design of the NextBus system allows these predictions to be made readily available to a variety of interfaces: the web, smart phones, SMS systems, LED/LCD signs at stops and stations and through an open data feed to third-party developers.

TTC passengers at the city's 9,300 bus stops and 800 bus stops in the Greater Toronto Area will be able to access the Next Vehicle Arrival System. NextBus information is also provided on LCD screens at five subway stations, as well as bus shelters at Bathurst and Adelaide Streets and Queen Street and Spadina Avenue.

"TTC's implementation of NextBus confirms our position at the forefront of improving public transportation by providing useful information to large numbers of transit riders," said Scott Edmonds, WebTech Wireless' President and CEO. "It is among the largest open data initiatives we have seen."

The TTC operates the fourth most heavily used transit system in the USA and Canada serving over 2.5 million passengers daily in the Greater Toronto Area. Toronto joins 90 other NextBus customers, including Los Angeles, Washington, DC, San Francisco and Boston in deploying the most widely used real-time passenger information system in North America.
