TTC Streetcars of Tomorrow on Display at the CNE

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 30, 2007) - TTC Chair Adam Giambrone will brief the news media at the CNE TTC Streetcars of Tomorrow display at the Canadian National Exhibition, today, August 30th at 1:00 p.m. The TTC display is just outside the Direct Energy Centre, near the Princes' Gates. Two examples of light rail vehicles that are in service in other world cities have been on display since the CNE opened on August 17th.

Because the TTC needs to replace its aging fleet of streetcars, it is currently searching the globe for the best light rail vehicle (LRV) for Toronto - vehicles that will help secure the city's future in long-term, environmentally- sustainable transportation.

Modern LRVs operating in other world cities are typically larger than Toronto's current streetcars, are fully accessible, and are equipped with many customer conveniences such as air conditioning, and audio and visual stop announcements. The first next generation streetcar prototype is scheduled to arrive in Toronto in 2010.

Members of the News Media are to enter the CNE at the Newfoundland Gate, off Lakeshore Boulevard. Once at the Gate, please call (416) 554-7329 or (647) 449-8896 to be escorted to the site.
