31st Win in Arizona for the $1Million Powerball Second Prize


PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwired - Jun 9, 2014) - The Arizona Lottery announces that a group of five friends from Tucson has claimed the $1 million Powerball second prize winning ticket sold in Tucson for the drawing on Saturday, June 7. This is the 31st second place winning ticket sold in Arizona.

The group of friends, who wish to remain anonymous, purchased the winning ticket at a QuikTrip located at 3345 W. Valencia Road in Tucson. The group said they plan to pay off their debts and mentioned taking a group vacation to Hawaii with their winnings.

"We are thrilled that a group of friends in a Lottery pool are getting to share the $1 million Powerball second prize," said Karen Bach, director of budget, products and communications for the Arizona Lottery. "We look forward to more big winners from Arizona in the future."

Powerball offers many appealing features to players, including jackpots that grow bigger, faster. The starting jackpot is $40 million, and the second prize for matching all five numbers, without the Powerball, is $1 million.

The next Powerball drawing is on Wednesday, June 11, for an estimated $257 million jackpot. Tickets can be purchased at any Arizona Lottery retailer.

Players must be 21 years or older to purchase or redeem tickets. Winners have 180 days from the drawing date to claim their prize at an Arizona Lottery office or by mail. Overall odds vary by game.
