Tufts Health Plan's Medicare Preferred Plan Earns 4.5 Stars From Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)

WATERTOWN, MA--(Marketwired - Oct 9, 2013) - The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has awarded Tufts Health Plan a rating of 4.5 stars out of a possible five its Medicare Preferred HMO plan. This rating places Tufts Health Plan's Medicare Preferred HMO among the top 5% of more than 500 Medicare Advantage plans in the country.

"We are so proud to have achieved this high ranking from CMS," said Patty Blake, Tufts Health Plan SVP of senior products. "Especially exciting is the fact that we received the full five stars in more than half of the categories being measured, including preventive health measures and customer relations. The fact that we've received this extremely high ranking for five consecutive years truly reflects our team's commitment and diligent efforts to provide the best possible care and service to our members."

The CMS star rating system is an annual comprehensive measure of health plan quality across the nation, with the goal of increasing the level of care provided by private plans that contract with Medicare. Ratings are based on 45 unique quality measures including preventive screenings, managing chronic conditions, pharmacy programs, customer service, member experience, and health outcomes. Based on members' opinions and clinical or operational data, each measure gets its own star rating and a weighted average is used to calculate the overall score.
