TuneUp Supports Computers for Kids With Software Donation

Windows Optimization Software Aids Idaho Non-Profit With PC Refurbishment for Students

MIAMI, FL--(Marketwire - March 16, 2010) - TuneUp Corporation today announced its support of Computers for Kids, Inc., with a donation of 500 licenses of TuneUp Utilities. The Windows optimization software developer hopes to further the Idaho non-profit organization's computer refurbishment work -- giving students a technological advantage, to enhance their educational and future workforce opportunities. In addition, the software donation helps Computers for Kids address the growing problem of older computer systems being discarded to landfills or remaining shelved and unused, taking up warehouse space.

Key Facts

  • Computers for Kids refurbishes donated computers from individuals and businesses and licenses them for distribution to Idaho students, to enhance their education through the use of technology at home. Formed in 2002, the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization has distributed more than 10,000 computers and recycled more than 900 tons of PCs, monitors and equipment.

  • TuneUp Utilities is an award-winning series of Windows optimization software that is designed to make PC maintenance even easier for both novice and professional computer users. The software is compatible with Windows XP, Vista and 7, and can be run on both 32- and 64-bit operating systems.

Supporting Quotes

  • "Computers for Kids typically distributes 200 to 500 PCs a month to students, from kindergarten to the 14th grade," said Mike Peterson, volunteer technician, Computers for Kids. "TuneUp's donation will allow us to easily meet this demand and quickly fulfill key components of our program-reuse, reduction and recycling -- with long-reaching effects that benefit the Idaho community and the environment."

  • "TuneUp is pleased to support Computers for Kids' community service and educational program," said Stephan Hechler, CEO, TuneUp Corporation. "With TuneUp Utilities, the non-profit organization can revive older machines that may have otherwise been down for the count and allow local students to receive real-time, hands-on PC experience at home, while meeting its secondary goal of being environment-friendly."
