Turin Networks Chief Technology Officer to Speak at National Telecommunications Cooperative Association (NTCA) Wireless Symposium

Executive From Wireless Industry Leader to Speak on the Future of Wireless Backhaul

PETALUMA, CA--(Marketwire - December 16, 2008) - Turin Networks, Inc. today announced that Bruce Miller, Turin's chief technology officer and vice president of engineering, will speak at the NTCA Wireless Symposium at the Hilton Austin Hotel in Austin, Tex., Jan. 8, 2009. Miller will address the symposium at the main conference session on strategies for migration to IP/Ethernet wireless backhaul. Additionally, Turin Networks will host the Networking reception on Thursday, Jan. 8, in the Exhibit Hall from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Turin is a leading global provider of innovative Carrier Ethernet, Converged Services and Wireless Backhaul solutions for wireline and wireless network operators and private networks.

About the Session:
Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009
1:30 p.m. - 3 p.m.: The Future of Wireless Backhaul

All wireless technologies need a backhaul solution to reach the PSDN or PSTN. The question remains as to whether an all fiber IP backhaul solution will prove to be the ultimate winner and if so, when should the trigger be pulled. There are many hidden opportunities that wireless backhaul provides for the rural operator today and beyond. This session will not only discuss these topics, but also answer the questions, delve into the evolution of wireless backhaul and offer considerations to reflect on as you make your decisions regarding wireless backhaul opportunities.

Wireless traffic is growing exponentially as adoption of mobile web services and rich media applications accelerates. This growth will continue as 4G services such as WiMAX and LTE become more widespread. According to a recent survey of rural local exchange carriers (RLECs) conducted by the NTCA, this expansion in wireless services demand is not limited to the large national carriers. Approximately 77 percent of the RLECs responding to the survey are currently providing wireless services to their customers, and nearly half of the respondents who are not offering wireless service today indicated they are considering doing so in the near future. These rural carriers are being faced with the same bandwidth challenges as their national counterparts and are turning to advanced, new wireless backhaul solutions to serve their customers.

Turin Networks is a leading provider of next-generation wireless backhaul solutions to the rural market. The company's iConnect™ wireless backhaul solution facilitates the migration from traditional TDM and SONET-based transport to an IP/Ethernet-based backhaul infrastructure that offers improved network efficiency and lower operational cost. Turin's solutions have been extensively deployed for wireless backhaul applications by RLECs as well as specialized backhaul carriers who target rural markets.
