Turner Studios Selects BlueArc Titan to Accelerate Digital Film Production and Retrieval

BlueArc Reduces Production Time for Television Graphics Seen on TNT, TBS, Cartoon Network, Turner Classic Movies and Others, Accelerating Studio's Artistic Process

SAN JOSE, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 18, 2005 -- BlueArc® Corporation, provider of the world's highest performance, most scalable network storage systems, today announced that Turner Studios, the production and post-production arm for Turner Entertainment Networks, has selected BlueArc's Titan SiliconServer to dramatically accelerate the CGI creation process and foster collaboration among its team of artists.

BlueArc storage provides fast data access that allows artists to focus their attention on producing higher quality results. Titan removes the data-flow constraints that bottleneck even the most powerful render farms, meaning faster renders, fewer dropped frames, and far less rework for artists. Using Titan, rendering times at Turner Studios have measurably decreased, while image sequences load from disk at least three times faster than the studio's existing storage environment.

"Titan was easily faster in performance than other products we compared. Features like clustering and snapshotting have also helped our artists spend more time on production and less time waiting for files to load," said Sean Polack, CGI Animation Developer for Turner Studios. "BlueArc is a core component of our long-term plan for storage. Titan enables us to easily scale capacity as we grow."

"Using BlueArc's Titan, many of today's top CGI and visual effects studios have been able to remove storage constraints, enabling them to take on more artists, move to higher resolution projects and generate more revenue," said Mike Gustafson, president of BlueArc. "With some of the industry's largest names, including Turner Studios, counting on BlueArc's Titan at the core of their digitally driven business, we look forward to working with additional customers in this market."

BlueArc's Titan SiliconServer is backed by a unique architecture that allows customers to scale their storage systems far beyond any other servers available on the market today. Titan allows a single file system to grow up to 256 terabytes and delivers throughput of up to 20 Gigabits per second (Gbps). The architecture adapts to changing application or capacity needs, thus simplifying management, accelerating productivity and protecting a customer's long-term investment.
