Tuukka Rask Selected as the Hickok Belt™ Award Winner for March 2014

ROCHESTER, NY--(Marketwired - Apr 29, 2014) - Boston Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask has been selected as the Hickok Belt Award winner for the month of March 2014. Voting was conducted by a select panel of members of the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NSSA). Rask was selected for his outstanding performance throughout March, a month in which he cemented his status as a frontrunner for the Vezina Trophy with his 9-1-1 record, .943 save percentage, and just 19 goals against. Rask finished the season fifth in wins with 36 and led all goaltenders in the NHL with seven shutouts. Rask also finished the season first in overall save percentage (.930) and even-strength save percentage (.942) while helping Boston finish second in goals against and eighth in penalty killing. His 2.04 goals against average ranked second among goaltenders that played in 40 or more games.

Other finalists for the month of March in order of how the NSSA voters ranked them included: Tim Duncan (basketball), Kevin Harvick (auto racing), Dallas Seavey (dog sled racing), Carmelo Anthony (basketball), Claude Giroux (hockey), Paula Creamer (golf), Matt Every (golf), Karrie Webb (golf), and Russell Henley (golf).

Rask's selection as the Hickok Belt Award winner for March 2014 recognizes him as "the best of the best" in professional sports for the month and makes him the third candidate eligible to receive the 2014 overall award, joining previous 2014 monthly winners Kevin Durant and Carey Price.

Voting for the 2013 overall Hickok Belt Award winner is currently underway and will be announced in the coming weeks.
