TUV SUD tests new HUAWEI FIT Smartwatch

PEABODY, MA--(Marketwired - November 07, 2016) - Many smartwatches or activity trackers are worn in contact with the skin 24/7. To ensure this will not result in a rash or skin irritation, voluntary testing by TÜV SÜD checks for mechanical and technical safety, but also chemical safety and aspects of usability. As the first customer from Asia, Huawei had its new HUAWEI FIT model MES-B19 tested according to the TÜV SÜD standard and was awarded the Wearables certification mark. It is also the first model to include the usability test of the mark. The new Huawei fitness watch will be presented on Thursday 3 November 2016 in Munich.

"The market for wearable technologies is booming. As consumers generally wear these devices 24/7, the aspect of personal health and safety is of special significance. The TÜV SÜD certification mark is designed to offer guidance to customers," explains Asli Solmaz-Kaiser, Head of Electrical and Electronics (ENE) International at TÜV SÜD Product Service. "We improve safety and reliability for consumers, but also for manufacturers. By affixing the certification mark to its product, Huawei can now demonstrate that its MES-B19 offers quality above and beyond the legal requirements," adds the wearables expert.

Extensive test standard
TÜV SÜD Product Service tests fitness watches for a variety of features, such as pedometer sensitivity to ensure that small hand movements are not counted as steps. In addition, the standard also covers the fastening of the wristband and the clasp plus the device's resistance to shock, scratching and falls. Usability testing includes the evaluation of the heart rate monitoring function against medical EKG device to ensure the accuracy of the measurement. The HUAWEI FIT MES-B19 is also waterproof 5ATM.

As well as the product as such, certification also includes inspection and surveillance of the production factories. The criteria were developed on the basis of numerous test standards, including EN 60950-1/A2, EN 60529 and EN 60065.

Further services for the wearables market
