TVG Reveals American Wagers Favored Triple Crown Winner for Belmont Stakes

Data From Premier Player in Horse Racing Shows Record Level of Wagering Activity Mobile Devices

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - Jun 6, 2015) - TVG, America's #1 Online Horse Race Wagering and TV Network, released data from the Belmont Stakes on Americans' wagering behaviors. An estimated 600,000 individuals placed wagers on the Belmont Stakes nationwide, with nearly half in favor of American Pharoah.

"With twelve failed attempts at the Triple Crown over the past 37 years, American Pharoah's future was uncertain. Yet, American bettors on websites such as TVG or at the track realized that this one could finally re-write history," said Kip Levin, CEO of TVG. "This is an exciting moment for the horse racing industry and Americans alike, and we're thrilled to see the enthusiasm spurred by American Pharoah's inspiring journey to Triple Crown winner."

TVG's own betting data also revealed betting on mobile devices was up 45 percent from the 2014 Belmont Stakes Day. Both core fans and the next generation of racing fans appreciate the ease of a mobile wagering platform, which offers a seamless experience in line with their lifestyles.

TVG's analysis of wagering data also revealed that:

  • Mobile bettors on average are 11 years younger than someone betting via desktop
  • Americans placed an average bet of $48.60 on American Pharoah

In 2014, TVG launched a mobile app on the iPhone and iPad designed for an optimized wagering experience that features free handicapping information, live racing video and race alerts to help players wager on over 150 race tracks worldwide. A new mobile website was launched for Android users just in time for the Triple Crown at TVG.com.

"In winning thoroughbred racing's Triple Crown, American Pharoah has accomplished one of the most difficult feats. TVG viewers have had a front row seat and witnessed his remarkable career from the very beginning. Moving forward, TVG will be there to bring coverage of horse racing's brightest star as he continues to try and become one of the best equine athletes ever," said Todd Schrupp, TVG Network lead host.
