TVU Networks Unveils Revolutionary Multipath HD Retrofit Solution for ENG Vans

TVUPack Enables Broadcasters to Preserve Investments in Existing ENG Infrastructure by Retrofitting SD Microwave and Satellite OB Vans to Broadcast in HD

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwire - Apr 13, 2012) - TVU Networks, the global leader in live electronic news gathering (ENG) broadcast solutions announced today the launch of a new Multipath solution designed to help broadcasters retrofit existing SD microwave and satellite ENG trucks to broadcast in HD using TVUPack, TVU's award-winning mobile uplink solution. This solution enables broadcasters to preserve their investment in their existing ENG vehicles while making the all-important transition to full HD video transmission.

With this newly introduced Multipath technology, TVUPack becomes the first hybrid backpack capable of delivering HD broadcast quality live TV signal via microwave and satellite links in addition to 3G/4G/LTE wireless connections. The DVB-ASI interface on TVUPack allows it to connect to any digital Standard Resolution ENG van and utilize the dedicated microwave or satellite link for live HD video transmission.

"As TV stations migrate to HD, many are exploring various approaches to upgrade their existing SD ENG vehicles. With TVUPack's hybrid functionality, TV stations no longer need to choose between whether to upgrade their ENG vans with a dedicated encoder/decoder or purchase the TVUPack. This solution allows them to have the assurance of dedicated bandwidth for HD signal in the ENG vehicle and the mobility of TVUPack with its 3G/4G/LTE data connections," said Paul Shen, CEO, TVU Networks.

Using its proprietary Inverse StatMux technology, TVUPack dynamically segments the live video signal and transmits each segment through multiple wireless connections including 3G/4G/LTE, WiFi, satellite and WiMax, enabling TVUPack to transmit the best picture quality available from a mobile uplink solution. TVUPack gives broadcasters flexibility to not only broadcast on the go, but to protect their investments in existing ENG equipment.

"TVUPack has been an important strategic tool for our stations to deliver breaking news to their viewers in more ways and from more locations," said Rich Adams, chief operating officer, Hoak Media Corporation. "The option to use the TVUPack both inside an OB van to broadcast an HD signal and as a portable transmission solution provides a valuable asset for broadcasters looking to do more with less."

Already in use by hundreds of broadcast organizations around the globe, TVUPack gives broadcasters ENG truck functionality in a lightweight backpack. TVUPack is powered by TVU's proprietary Inverse StatMux technology, which dynamically segments a live video signal and transmits the segments through multiple independent wireless connections. TVUPack is simple to use and provides broadcasters with low-latency, professional broadcast-quality signal that enables them to broadcast live at any time and from virtually any location around the globe.
