Twenty-Three Exceptional Volunteers Recognized by Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation -- Ontario Region

TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - April 20, 2015) - Over 500 Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) volunteers gathered at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel on Sunday to celebrate its outstanding volunteers across the province. In conjunction with National Volunteer Week, CBCF -- Ontario Region is excited to announce its 8th annual Community Celebration Volunteer Award winners. Twenty-three exceptional individuals received awards at the 2015 Community Celebration Event on Sunday, April 19 while an additional 48 were recognized as nominees.

"Our work would not be possible without the passion and commitment of our volunteer community," said Sandra Palmaro, CEO, CBCF -- Ontario Region. "CBCF volunteers come from all walks of life, drawn together by the shared vision of creating a future without breast cancer. Together, with their support we can continue to fund advancements in earlier detection, improved diagnosis and more effective treatment, which have helped reduce breast cancer mortality rates by 43 per cent since the 1980s. It is an honour to formally recognize their dedication, time and energy."

As the largest community-driven funder of breast cancer research in Canada, CBCF offers Canadians many ways to get involved including, hosting and participating in fundraising events, organizing CIBC Run for the Cure sites, serving on committees and review panels and acting as CBCF representatives at community engagement events. Last year in Ontario, more than 4,000 volunteers gave their time to support those affected by breast cancer.

Libby Znaimer, host of The Zoomer Report and prominent Canadian journalist and breast cancer survivor, emceed the Community Celebration event on Sunday at Toronto's Fairmont Royal York. This year's award winners continue to raise the bar on innovation and creativity in fundraising, advocacy and championing change, all while bringing us closer to creating a future without breast cancer.
