Twizza Soft Drinks & Crickley Dairy: Drinking in Quality

NORWICH, UK--(Marketwire - Nov 7, 2011) - "You never arrive," says Ken Clark, giving a hint of the restless energy that has seen him grow from being a small time dairy farmer to the proprietor of two large and successful South African businesses. Back in 1984, Clark was finding it an uphill task to raise the capital needed to expand his East Cape farm. He needed to acquire more land but though he was supplying the bulk of the milk in the area and had maximised production on the acreage he had through irrigation, then as now primary milk production was a low margin business. It was not practicable to reach the scale he wanted.

His response was to secure a small production unit- just 80 square metres -- at Indwe in the Eastern Cape and turn it into a yoghurt factory. "I just wanted to try the value added route to raise some more capital, but what happened was that the value added revenues eclipsed the farming revenues. Eventually we abandoned farming altogether and concentrated on growing the business."
