Two La Tuque Companies Receive Funding From the Government of Canada to Pursue Their Expansion

LA TUQUE, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Jan. 21, 2015) - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced the awarding of financial assistance to two La Tuque enterprises for, among other things, productivity enhancement and the acquisition of equipment.

This support, granted in the form of $1,087,500 in total repayable financial assistance through CED's Quebec Economic Development Program (QEDP), includes a $650,000 repayable contribution to John Lewis Industries Ltd and two repayable contributions of $325,000 and $112,500 to Transfobec Mauricie.

Quick facts

• The assistance granted to John Lewis Industries Ltd, a secondary and tertiary processor of forest products, will serve for the acquisition of processing equipment, including sorters, shapers, printers and boxing machines, for the development of a new product: corn dog (Pogo) sticks. This project is expected to lead to the creation of six new jobs.
• For Transfobec Mauricie, an SME specializing in the reclamation of forest biomass, and more specifically in the processing of wood logs, the funding will be used to acquire equipment for the manufacture of horticultural mulch. The enterprise expects to create five new jobs as a result of this project.
