Two Living Flower Carpets Loom Large in Elkhart and Nappanee, Indiana

Elkhart County, Indiana Hosts North America's Only Fall Flower Carpet Event

ELKHART, IN--(Marketwired - September 18, 2014) - This autumn viewers get quite an eyeful when North America's only Fall Flower Carpets are rolled out in Elkhart and Nappanee, Indiana. Loomed in blooms, two living flower carpets each packed with 7,000 pots of jewel-toned mums (14,000 in all) fill city downtowns with dazzling color. The Fall Flower Carpets are on view free of charge from September 28 to October 15. Observation platforms make them easy to see and photograph and come evening viewers get a bonus of clever nighttime illumination.

Elkhart's Fall Flower Carpet puts on a dazzling display in Central Park just off Main Street in the city's A&E district. Its novel motif pays homage to the nearby National New York Central Railroad Museum's mighty "Mohawk" No. 3001, the largest of the remaining NYC steam locomotives, and the design comes complete with all the "bells and whistles."

The Fall Flower Carpet in Nappanee transforms a downtown block into a vibrant tribute to nearly a century of performing arts in the city. That celebrated history ranges from the time the Nappanee Theatre opened its doors in 1926 to the current day productions at Amish Acre's Round Barn Theatre, Indiana's only resident repertory musical theatre company.

Both mum-filled flower carpets are complemented by special happenings, performances and family-friendly activities in the communities that host them. "With downtown Elkhart and Nappanee working cooperatively with the Elkhart County Convention & Visitors Bureau on this exciting project, the Fall Flower Carpets epitomize the community minded spirit prevalent throughout the destination," says the project's manager Sonya Nash. She goes on to say that when these displays are dismantled, a large portion of the mums will be sold to benefit local non-profit organizations and the remainder used to enhance public spaces.

The Fall Flower Carpets are made possible by the Elkhart County, IN Convention & Visitors Bureau in partnership with the City of Elkhart and the City of Nappanee along with other community organizations.
